As a Sales Director, you will own your sales quota and drive revenue growth within your region. You’ll take full responsibility for meeting or exceeding your targets, developing and executing strategies to identify and qualify new business opportunities.
You’ll get to lead the entire sales cycle, collaborating with demand generation specialists and pre-sales experts to create RFPs, pitches, and proof of concepts. Your primary focus will be on closing complex, high-value deals worth over 1 million, while managing product and service negotiations to ensure success.
What you'll do
In this role, you will drive digital banking transformation across East and South Africa, focusing on acquiring net-new customers and expanding our footprint within existing accounts. Reporting directly to the VP of Sales, you will carry your own quota and lead high-value sales engagements from initial contact to close. This is a senior, strategic position requiring a strong command of enterprise software sales, digital banking trends, and customer value creation.
- Proven track record of closing complex software agreements, typically $1M+ in Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR), across large territories
- Experience in identifying and winning net-new business, while also nurturing existing customer relationships for expansion opportunities
- Skilled in forecasting and pipeline management, with a consistent ability to move opportunities through the funnel from identification to close
- Strong understanding of the digital banking landscape and the ability to craft compelling business cases for customer investments in transformation
- Comfortable operating as a trusted advisor to senior executives in banking and financial institutions, leading value-based conversations and aligning on strategic priorities
- Ability to gather, structure, and translate customer requirements into Backbase-driven solutions that demonstrate clear ROI
- Adept at internal collaboration—partnering with solution engineering, marketing, and delivery teams to drive aligned go-to-market efforts
- Demonstrated success in managing multi-country sales territories with a deep appreciation for cultural, regulatory, and market dynamics in East and South Africa
- Passion for contributing to Backbase’s mission of digital banking leadership across the region
- Willingness to take on additional strategic or operational responsibilities that support business goals and team growth

- 8+ years of experience in hunter-sales with a proven track record in solution selling
- Strong network within the banking sector in East and South Africa, with the ability to open doors and drive business
- Skilled in managing large, multi-country territories and navigating complex sales cycles
- Fluent in English and local languages, both written and spoken
- Preferably holds a Master's degree in a business-related or IT field
