BRD delivers a seamless experience across all channels

Founded in 1923, BRD is the second-largest retail bank in Romania and the fourth-largest in terms of assets, with US$14.7bn. BRD is part of the Groupe Société Générale and currently has more than 2 million customers. BRD always had an appetite for digital as the first Romanian bank to pilot near-field-communication technology. The bank was also the creator of the country’s first mobile banking app in a time when mobile devices were still quite new to the market.

Goals & challenges

Like many traditional banks, BRD was laboring under legacy infrastructure and fragmented architecture, resulting in slow delivery speed and a lack of market differentiation. The bank sought a way to improve customer engagement and employee efficiency with an online/offline hybrid experience. BRD wanted to build a unified front-end solution, streamlining four channels into one platform, and create an employee portal to enhance customer service with a 360° view across all processes and channels.

Solution

BRD partnered with Backbase to help facilitate its digital transformation journey. The bank’s primary considerations were the flexibility and customizability of the engagement banking platform, as well as Backbase’s ability to get the bank to market, at speed. In collaboration with Backbase, BRD realized these goals with two innovative solutions - a user-friendly, customizable customer mobile and web app, and an employee app that provides an overview of all products and the customer relationship with BRD.
