Backbase’s Omni-Channel Digital Banking Platform supports customer interactions across online banking (responsive web), mobile banking apps (hybrid and native on iOS and Android), agent/front-office apps (computer or tablet), customer contact center, CSR portal, ATM/Kiosk, social, messaging (sms/whatsapp), wearables (Apple Watch apps/notifications), and voice channels (Siri, Echo).

The Backbase architecture is designed from the ground up to act a central orchestrator of customer interactions across all user touchpoints. At the core of the Backbase platform we have the concept of Widgets. Widgets are end-2-end mini-applications that contain UI logic that connects to business/process logic and data. Widgets are created once and run everywhere. In other words – widgets are ”shared” lego blocks that can be re-used across multiple applications (e.g. web/mobile) and multiple user types (e.g. employee / customer). Widgets share common platform services for security, integration, personalization, transactions, payments, notification, etc. All customer interactions – across all though points – run through the same shared digital banking platform services, from integration calls to the back-end (e.g. core banking), to gathering data and persisting the customer session, to rendering a user interface that is optimized for a specific device context. At presentation level we made it possible to reuse the widget across multiple devices/channels where we use the same presentation model and modify the view (UI extension) for the specific device/channel.

Our widget centric approach makes the Backbase digital banking platform extremely efficient (re-use) and extremely flexible. Our customers can easily customize our out-of-the-box widgets or create their own brand new widgets. This enables quick reuse and quick introduction of new features and capabilities. Something that would normally take months or even years, now can be done in days or weeks – introducing new capabilities across all channels and touch points with one single widget in one compact effort.
